My views of studying abroad was great, opened my eyes wife to different things. The different things dealing with healthcare and economics. It also showed me that we are really not that different if you think about it. Some areas are just not as developed as other areas in this country. My exceptions were passed and I was really pleased by every opportunity we received while being in South Africa. Yes I would recommend to not only Prairie View students even high school students. I would also talk to people who may missed the chance in college to study abroad as well. I believe everyone should at least go one place in their life to see the culture and also learn from it.

My views on the South Africa Abroad Tour is that if you have the slightest inclination that you want to attend you NEED TO GO!. This trip opened my eyes to the apartheid that took place in South Africa. I connected with my roots from the people, food, and museums we visited. Any student who is interested in business, international travel and trade should not even hesitate to attend this tour Spring of 2018! I will never look at America the same way. This trip was both educational with hands on experience with global economics. We also mixed business with pleasure by indulging in South African safari's and mountain adventures. Take my advice and please attend next year's study abroad tour!

Studying abroad was something I had never done and I am so thankful that I got the opportunity to do so. Arriving to South Africa and spending a week there exceeded my expectations. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect. Somehow I thought everyone would be dressed in African clothing selling goods on the side of the roads but hey that's just like people thinking everyone in Texas rides horses. Lol! My views from visiting South Africa is that it's an amazing place and truly and experience. I deeply encourage anyone who has a chance to study abroad, go to a conference or just visit South Africa period to jump on that chance. It's an experience you'll never forget and cherish forever. I did not want to come back to America and I must say that I am not the same person that I was before I went to South Africa. Being there, I found a new way to love myself and my people more. I learned different lessons from different people that we encountered while we were there. This trip was educational, adventurous, full of networking, and hands on. One of the main lessons I took from this trip was truly understanding the definition of economics and that is the production, consumption, and transfer of funds. Many of us are consumers, and transferres but not so much producers. If you are thinking about attending the 2018 trip to South Africa, please do not hesitate because your world will change for the better.

The misconceptions of South Africa were quickly negated as soon as I exited the airport on arrival. Its wonderful scenery and the breath taking views from places like the table top mountain and the V&A waterfront tantalized your spirit and leave you hungering for more. Standing next to Nelson Mandela’s prison cell on Robben Island was not only surreal but gives you a glimpse into his dreadful experiences. The fascinating and rich cultural heritage all meant to be discovered are not only intriguing but extremely diverse. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of the experience if given the opportunity as you would not be disappointed but be truly enlightened.

As people of color, we do not view traveling abroad as a necessity and excuses are made instead. In my opinion, traveling is apart of self-development, and I am very fortunate and grateful to have had this experience. I really appreciated the Study Abroad Tour because all of the events, meetings, and activities were planned far in advance and I did not have to plan everything, as you would if you went somewhere on your own. There was a perfect blend of learning and having fun on this tour. My expectations were not only met, but exceeded! Of course, we would need an ample amount of time to explore every inch of South Africa, but I believe that, in the time we were there, we were able to maximize our time and capture a perfect snapshot of the real South Africa and not what is portrayed in Hollywood. I definetly recommended this trip to anyone who 1. Has never left the country and has a desire to do so and 2. Has a yearning to better themselves and positively self-develope. When preparing for this trip, it was warming and eye-opening to see how my family and friends were proud of me! However, I was a bit confused, "Proud for what? This is my Spring Break!!!", but then I realized that it was because I was fulfilling others dreams. Those that were congratulating me had never left the country and wished they could do so, or they had left the country and knew the life changing journey I was embarking on. South Africa gets a 10/10 from me and I highly recommend it!

When I first arrived to South Africa it felt surreal. I never imagined that I would leave the United States and I could not believe that I did. Johannesburg and Cape Town are beautiful places filled with so much culture and history. During my time there I witnessed diversity, beautiful infrastructure & hardworking people. As the days went by I felt the only the thing that truly separated us was land and water.

Overall this experience was amazing! I have always wanted to study abroad when I got to college and I am so blessed and thankful for the opportunity that Prairie View has given me to do so. I highly recommend EVERYONE to engage in the opportunity to travel abroad! it is absolutely life changing and you will receive so much information and knowledge that it will be overwhelming at first, but it will ultimately open your eyes to new perspectives and your views will nit be the same.

My experience in South Africa is one that will forever be remembered! I am extremely grateful that I was able to have the opportunity to not only travel abroad for the first time, but to have that opportunity to be shared with my peers and professors. This trip truly showed me that although America is thousands of miles away, we still face the same struggles as our brothers and sisters in South Africa. One of my favorite moments during the trip was visiting Damelin College and speaking with some of the students there who had never had a face-to-face encounter with young, black Americans. It was a beautiful experience to be able to talk, relate with them, and clear up several negative stereotypes that they had towards black Americans. I also was exposed to what the effects of apartheid was at an in depth level. It was beautiful to be able to relate the struggle that our South African brothers and sisters experienced to the struggles we face in America with slavery and segregation. I strongly encourage each and every individual to consider participating in the Spring 2018 South Africa education abroad trip. It will open ones eyes to so many different things and broaden ones scope of the world.

This trip to South Africa was AMAZING! I honestly enjoyed everyday of the trip. I am so glad I was able to get in touch with my roots. I learned so much about the history of South Africa, which was actually pretty similar to the black history in America. I was able to experience beautiful scenery and people. The food was great! Do not be afraid to try new things as long as its safe to eat. I did not set expectations for this trip because I wanted to go with an open mind and learn a plentiful amount of information. Since South Africa I have the urge to visit the rest of Africa. I am really into learning more about the things you have to fetch for because everything isn't in the textbooks in primary education. I will definitely recommend this to PV students. If you don't think you can't come up with the money, don't doubt yourself. Money somehow fell out the sky for me because I was determined to make it on this trip. Traveling abroad is such a grateful opportunity, so you all should definitely take advantage of it.

The South Africa study abroad trip was a beautiful, life changing experience I wish I could relive every day! This trip exceeded my expectations. It was well planned and organized with a balance of education and fun. Prior to learning about this program I was exploring other study abroad opportunities. I did not feel comfortable traveling to another country for the first time, with strangers for a much longer period of time. I had such a great experience I am looking into possibly going to graduate school in South Africa. As college students I believe our ultimate goal is to network and find a well paying job. Studying abroad puts you at advantage because it demonstrates you're willing to travel and able to work with others from different backgrounds. It looks great on your resume. I loved South Africa so much! To highly recommend this trip is an understatement. You should be applying NOW!

South Africa is as exotic and exciting as it sounds. It is rich in culture and in pride. Being able to explore the native land of my ancestors with both many similarities and differences as America, I have developed a more in-depth sense of African history. The entire trip was an incredible experience, I urge any one who has the opportunity to visit to do so. Not only were we able to understand the culture, but we became more versed in the economic standing of the country. We visited several institutions that fund a variety of projects which generates revenue for the country. The take away from this trip is one that has an intangible value and has had a major positive effect on who I am and the outlook I have for the entire world. Anyone who goes to South Africa will not be disappointed, nor will you ever be the same.
